Dairy Asia participation at the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation – 2025

Rome, Italy – As an action network of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL), Dairy Asia participated in the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation – 2025, held at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

During the conference, Mr. B. Batbaatar, CEO & Coordinator of the Dairy Asia Secretariat, delivered a presentation at the Speakers’ Corner. He outlined the structure and mission of Dairy Asia and introduced several key initiatives. These included the promotion of Asian Milk Week in conjunction with World Milk Day, as well as the upcoming hosting duties for the World Yak Association and the World Bactrian Camel Association by Mongolia.

Furthermore, Mr. Batbaatar contributed to a working group meeting for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP). In these discussions, he provided input on core concepts, and key messaging, emphasizing the importance of initiatives that attract youth to pastoral communities and careers within the livestock sector.

During the GASL side event, “Accelerating national pathways to sustainable development through the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock,” a representative from the African Union’s Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) highlighted Dairy Asia as a good platform and announced a new proposal to establish a similar “Dairy Africa” initiative for the region.

The conference provided a platform for strengthening institutional partnerships. Mr. Batbaatar engaged in productive discussions with key knowledge partners, including the International Dairy Federation, the Dairy Sustainability Framework, the International Livestock Research Institute, and the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia and the Pacific, to explore future collaborative opportunities.
