Rome, Italy – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) convened the inaugural Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation from September 25-27, 2023, at its headquarters in Rome. The conference provided a neutral platform for FAO member states, industry organizations, research and academic institutions, development agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector entities.
Delegates engaged in strategic dialogues focused on identifying innovations and pathways to enhance the production of nutritious, safe, and accessible animal-source foods. A central goal of these discussions was to advance methods for reducing the environmental footprint of livestock systems while bolstering their resilience and contribution to local economies.
As a knowledge partner, Dairy Asia participated in the global conference and contributed to the Guiding Group meeting of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL).
A key side event during the conference, dedicated to the upcoming International Year of Camelids 2024, was co-hosted by FAO, the Government of Bolivia, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mr. Batbaatar Bayarmagnai, CEO and Coordinator of Dairy Asia, attended as a panelist. In his presentation, he outlined Dairy Asia’s ongoing initiatives and plans for developing the Mongolian Bactrian camel sector.
