Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – A conference entitled “The Importance of Camels: Opportunities for Improving the Sector’s Efficiency and Sustainable Development” was held on June 6, 2024. The event was hosted by the Government of Turkmenistan and jointly organized by the FAO Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The conference featured presentations from experts representing a wide range of camel-producing nations, including Turkmenistan, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, the UAE, and India.
Mr. Batbaatar Bayarmagnai, CEO and Coordinator of Dairy Asia, delivered a presentation on the organization’s joint activities and the current state of the Bactrian camel sector in Mongolia. His address highlighted key Dairy Asia initiatives, notably the proposal to establish a World Bactrian Camel Association and the development of a camel milk cluster in Mongolia. Mr. Bayarmagnai outlined the ongoing activities supporting these initiatives and extended a call for collaboration to key participants and international stakeholders to join these efforts.
